Fishing at Hall Croft farm
The lake is approximately 5 acres in size. Originally dug out for the gravel some 20 years ago it has been stocked with a variety of coarse fish.
The fish range from roach, perch, tench, bream (including black bream), crucian, mirror and common carp. Pike also patrol the waters – therefore there can be some excellent opportunities with spinning. The lake is not over stocked, but it is a proper coarse fishing lake. The winds can pick up from the west very quickly and can provide challenging fishing conditions. The bream definitely favour the choppy water and have fished very well this year. Fly fishing is permitted on the lake. Read more about fishing here
The lake holds some large pike, and spinning has proved very successful during the colder months of the year. Dead bait only - mackrel/spratts achieve some good results, and earlier this year a 22lb pike was a prize catch. The bream also remain to fish well into the colder months as do the roach, and they seem to be plentiful for those who are brave enough to fish into the wind. Chopped worm and bronze maggots remain firm favourites and with pinkies, a netfull of skimmers can be achieved. The pole is preferred by some of the more regular fisherman during the winter months especially on breezy days.
